pan bolts

is there a special order or way one should follow when reinstalling a tranny pan on a 4l60e? and which gasket type is easiest to get right? any help greatly appreciated!

Re: pan bolts

If I am not mistaken (been awhile since I did it) the torque spec on the tranny pan bolts is 13 ft lbs. Its not much and I used an inch pound torque wrench cause my ft lbs TW starts at 20.
No particular order to tighten the bolts but I go side to side and snug em up and then go back to give em the final torque spec.
I have had real good luck with the rubber gaskets, they are reuseable and seal better than the cork ones.

That's fine Matt. You'll be suprised how little torque will seal the pan gasket.
Since I saw another post of yours stating your new converter pulls great, I assume you at least got them snugged enough.
Check them again after running it 100 miles or so. don't tighten the bolts enough to dis-figure the gasket itself by pushing the gasket out from between the pan and case in the immediate bolt area. When you see the gasket start to push out at that point, that's enough torque, and don't loosen the bolt either so watch close on intiatial go round.
A standard steel pan will generally seal faily well with little torque if torqued evenly, but on the other hand, over torquing can warp the thin steel pan and trash the gasket too and on subsequent new gasket installs, the {now warped} steel pan still won't seal correctly.

Re: pan bolts

Thanks for the advice Mike...I'll check them next time I get under the car to check my torque arm bolts.
