Re: old school 12 bolt

You can more than likely weld all of the necessary brackets on to the twelve bolt to make your brakes and suspension work. The problem you may run into however is rather or not it is the same width as that currently on your car.

Re: old school 12 bolt

Your going to lose your ABS braking system. Other than that, it should be able to be done no problem.

Also you on the fitment, You may have to narrow it and if thats the case that means new axles. I've got a shop that quoted me $200 to narrow an axle housing. Then all you'll need is axles. Alot less than $2200.

Re: old school 12 bolt

$ 70 rear end
$200 cut down
$300 axles
$200 gear

Looks like it can be done anywhere from $770 min to 1,000 max. But I'd hope it wouldn't cost that much. I'm doing a 9" the same way your talking about doing the 12 bolt and I've already researched my prices so the only difference is what your paying for the rear.

P.S. $770 looks alot better than $2,200

You will also have to figure out how to mount the torque arm.

I'm building a 9" and Moser will sell me the 3rd Member case for $325 so that I can mount the torgue arm straight up. So that puts me at a little over $1,000. Not bad

TA don't mount to the "chunk" it mounts to the housing with an adapter. Moser axle housings have the mount's already welded on.

Ya will have to grind the gusset's on the chunk to clear the adapter though.

I know of a company that sells just a torque arm mount for the 9", its relatively inexpensive as well.

Could you send me a PM about that company if it isn't a supporting vendor. Thanks

Re: old school 12 bolt

I got my 9" through a trade-out with another member on this board. I had previously checked with some salvage yards in my local area and they ran around $300 or so. I also looked for some 12 bolts but couldn't get a price on one.

Don't forget about all the little small things that really do add up... bearings, races, seals, axle bearings, shim kit, etc...

Something you might want to include into your calculations.
