Odd 4L60E problem , need help please
First off the car is question is a 95 with a 94 4L60E and a 94 pcm with a 3200 stall vig currently ....breif history , this same 94 trans and 3200 stall was in my car last year and shifted perfectly with the 95 pcm I had at the time . The 95 pcm went bad so I switched to a 94 pcm because I had the 94 trans and it would allow the TCC to work again , now I have multiple problems with it shifting at WOT and one other problem that is baffling the hell outa me . And just to clear this up , I am positive its a 94 trans per the serial # stamped on the case . Im capable of figuring out the WOT shifting problems , I got real close today with the shift mph's . I guess maybe too this 94 pcm is more sensitive to the OBD1 WOT shifting problems than my old 95 pcm was , unfortunatly .
Now for the baffling problem . If the shifter is in overdrive or drive while the car is not moving ,its like the car is in neutral . If I move the shifter to 2 , the car is in 1st gear . If I then drive the car with the shifter in 2 , it will shift 1-2 normally and on its own , but then stay in 2nd to any prm or speed till I bump the shifter up to drive , then it will shift into 3rd ( remember when the car is not moving D is like the car is in neutral
) , to the get the car to shift into 4th I then have to bump the shifter to overdrive . Going thru the motions with the shifter like that at normal low rpm speeds , the car shifts 1-4th just fine , fine meaning the shifts are firm and normal feeling . When you come to a complete stop from cruising in 4th with the shifter in overdrive , intead of the pcm switching the trans back to 1st gear , the readout on the scan log says it stays in 4th and its like the car is in neutral . To get going again I gotta put the shifter down to 2 to get first again . If I try to do that anything over 1/2 throttle it gets wierd . Run up thru first , then when it tries to go to 2nd the trans kept switching back and between 1 and 2 before it finally when in 2nd . Watching the scan log it switched REAL fast between 1 and 2 about 3 times before it went into 2nd .
I have never had selonoids fail with 4L60e tranny , so Im clueless as to the tell tale signs . I really dont think its a internal trans problem as the fluid looked good and did not smell burt at all . I havent had the pan off yet though , I just got home .
Other FWIW things ....reverse still works fine , park is still park , when the car is in 4th the TCC works fine , NO tranny codes have been set . This happened tonite when I made a WOT run . I hit it and the car made no attempt at all to shift like it normally does , it just shot straight up to the rev limiter and bouced till I let off , Ive had these problems ever since .
Anyone have any idea's ?

do you have a copy of your .bin out of your 95 ecm?
if you do, compare them to some of the tables in your 94 and maybe you can find a difference in some of the values and change them.
as far as the dreaded obd l high tq 1-2 shift problem, i've read on another forum that it can be fixed by adjusting the the shift cable. according to over a dozen people who have done it, it works. heres what they say to do.
The first thing to do is get the car up in the air so you can have room to work. Ramps work well or use jackstands. Don't work under a car that is supported by a jack, only. Be sure to engage the parking brake or block the wheels.
Next, you will need to remove the cable end off the transmission shift lever. It is a ball and socket arrangement that will pry off fairly easily with a screwdriver (exercise reasonable care). With the cable end free, manually move the transmission lever to the neutral position as shown. You will have to feel out and count the detents to be sure you are in the correct position. The lever has a tendency to spring out of the PARK position when you pull on it, making it a little difficult to tell what gear is next. I find it easier to pull the lever all the way back to 1, then count up >2>D>OD>N to get it to neutral. This should work even if you have a console gear indicator that does not have the selectable first gear. Move the transmission gear selector in the console to the neutral position.
You could also start this procedure by putting the transmission in neutral with the console selector first. Just as long as you end up with the console selector and the lever on the transmission both in the neutral position.
Release the locking tab located at the cable mounting bracket. You can use a screwdriver to get the tab started up and assist it by pushing from the bottom. Move the tab up high enough so that the cable housing will slide in the adjuster.
Slide the cable end forward and snap it on the transmission lever, taking care that both the transmission and console levers stay in the neutral position. Once the cable is back on the lever, push the locking tab back down. If the tab does not act like it wants to go back down, move the cable housing forward or rearward slightly to allow it to fit in the grooves. Check the selector operation inside the car before lowering the car back down. Re-adjust if needed.

Great info about the 1-2 shift problem . That wont apply to mine since I use a B&M cable and shifter , but my buddy with a 95 Formula is fighting this problem and he does have a stock shifter and cable .

the gentleman who wrote this "fix" was also using a B&M cable and shifter in a 69 camaro.
