obd1 high stall issues...

cant you fix this with tuning or is it better to use that transgo manual kit. i already have the regular transgo kit and dont wanna have to go back in unless i really need to. doesnt someone have a fix for it now with tuning. i dont have the problem yet cause i only have the vigilante 2800 right now but im getting it turned up to a 3200 or so.

I have the problem right now. I have Brian at PCMFORLESS doing my tuning. He says he still has a few things that he can try to hopefully get rid of my no shifting problem.

I would also like to know what else can be done to cure this aside from the tuning.

Nothing, besides tuning will cure it...Unless, you dont have a "stall" in your car..Sometimes, it will happen with a 3k stall, sometimes it wont...It just depends on the car..Either of the two tuners, will get you guys worked out no prob..

I wouldnt say that. Ive been trying to get mine with a 3200 stall to shift for the last month or so without crashing into the rev-limiter . I know what Im doing with the trans tables and shift settings and Im about to give up on mine . I got 1-2 to shift consistently at 6025-6150 ( it wont hit an exact # ) pretty consistently by telling the pcm to shift at 20 mph which corrolates to 2700 rpm with the rear gears I have , then in the mph tables set 100% tps 2 mph higher at 22 . 2-3 I have to set at 69 mph ( 5000 rpm) to get to shift at 6100 . If I try to raise the shift points any higher than that ( I need to shift at 6900-7100 ) , it's just like theres nothing set at all and both 1-2 and 2-3 run right staight up to the rev-limiter I have set 7400 .

The cable adjustment fix has to be made up . I have a b&m cable on mine that I know is not out of adjustment at all .

As long as this prob has been discussed Ive never heard anyone with a answer yet , other than switching to an OBD2 computer. Ive got countless hours of computer programming trying to chase this and Im about to give up .

I have heard the stock PCM wont handle anything over 7000 RPM. Is this true?

It varies from pcm to pcm . I had one that woudnt go over 6800 . The higher rpm pcm's are less common but there are some that will keep on going . 7600 is the highest Ive heard and like I said mine did not shut down bouncing off the rev-limiter at 7400 ....yes , my sig is outdated

The heads/cam bumped up your torque converter stall. You're probably stalling at 3200 right now even though you have a 2800.

Re: obd1 high stall issues...

Apparently from what Ive been able to find by searching the net , Bryan @ pcmforless and Ed Wright have solved this problem . A table was found in the pcm having something to do with scaling stall speed vs. speed sensor output . GM's set value was 2400 and nething to much over will throw the trans into a limp home mode , causing the gears to jump around like going from 1-3 , or just run right up to the rev-limit because the PCM got no signal to shift .

Also discovered for those that dont mind to shift on their own , transgo make a Manual electric valvebody incorporating a toggle switch ....letting shift automatically or flipping a switch and making it a FULL manual . The info I found was about 6-7 mos. old . Damn , where the hell was I , lol
