o.d stopped engaging, cooled for hour works great

Never had any problems. I swapped in a 2800 stall, no problems. Maybe 1500 miles on it. Went to town to get pizza and some root beer. Its about 40 miles in. I was on way home noticed I did not have Overdrive. I shifted from 2nd (after slowing down) manually up shift, had second third, nothing in OD. Stopped car , very sluggish like I was stuck in second or third. Tried several times. No changes, drove the rest of the way home carefully, kept shifter in 3rd. Got home tried dead stop once more, very sluggish like it was in 2nd or third still. Parked car, calmed down, without throwing a rock at the car. Went in ate watched movie. Came back out to check car, fluid did not smell burnt before our after, its clear red. Took it for drive, worked 100% perfect. I have tranny cooler to install tomorrow night. I 've never had a problem until this evening. Help

Most likely thrird gear starts and no O/D. Third gear starts is a sure sign that the transmission is in "limp Mode". Third gear is both shift solenoids "OFF". Check all your electrical connectors very well, to make sure you've got good connections. It would also be a good idea to get the car scanned, to check for trouble codes.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I got in my car and did a long burnout in front of my house, got on the highway and had no OD. When I came out the next day the car drove fine like nothing ever happened. Haven't had a problem since.

OD. Like I said this was a couple of years ago and I've never had any more problems out of my trans. I freaked when it first happened though.
