Normal 2001 A4 Shifting?

I’m not sure if this is normal for an A4 or not. My car runs really excellent and strong, no misses or hesitations. Above 60 mph when I kick it down it rips like all hell. The problem is when it shifts back into 4th or overdrive with the pedal nailed to the floor it seems like it’s lagging or fuel starved for a couple seconds then it builds speed again. If I do the same scenario above but let it **** into OD by letting off the gas I don’t get the lag?? Is this something programmed into the shift point or do I have a problem? My car is a 2001 Z28 and runs perfectly otherwise. Car is almost 100 percent stock with 14K on it.

BTW it does this with the ASR on and off.

Thanks,
GlenM

Well in order to do a full throttle shift into 4th gear you must be goin really really fast because depending on your gears you will be way over 120-130 by the time that WOT shift occurs.

Negative this is in the 80 to 90 mph range. I may be wrong, but I don't think it could be the 2nd to 3rd up**** at WOT that I'm getting the lag. I have 2:73 gears. No problem on downshifts or at any RPM range. Only at that upshift. Do you have any useful info for me? What you posted wasn't helpful at all!

Thanks
Glen

First gear runs to about 40mph and second to about 80 or so. I guarantee you are shifting from 2-3 at 80-90 mph if your going WOT. See at 60-70 mph if you gun it the tranny downshifts to second gear. You won't hit 3-4 shift untill about 130mph if I remember correctly. And it is HARD on the tranny to do a 3-4 shift at WOT. All the tranny gurus do not recommend staying WOT that long.

You should get a shift kit. That will make the shifts faster and may fix your problem.

Good Luck

That's 130mph with 3.23s He said that he has 2.73s the 3-4 will occur at about 150mph.

The hesitation could very well be torque managment.

Yea my car with the 2.73's will do the 1-2 shift at about 57..and the 2-3 at about 95...from what i hear you can run 3rd gear all the way up to around 160 or so, (from what i heard from capn pete)...that it will not shift into 4th unless you back off the gas at those speeds, which therefore cause you to lose speed...when you step back on the gas..the car will downshift again into 3rd and you'll start gaining speed again.

OK, I stand corrected. It is my 2nd to 3rd shift after I kick it down.

Thanks for the replies.
