Are The Newer Bigger Servos Necessary?
4TH Gen Z28 A4 comes with Corvette 2/4 Servos, lotta promos
offering Jumbo sized Servos re better apply area etc. and rather
expensive. $80 at TCI and $27.50 for stock Covette ones, which
my Trans guy says is all I need since PCM does shifting.
Are the bigger Servos an improvement or a waste of money???
95Z28LT1A4; Red w/Black Ttop; racetronix fuel system, Holley 58mmTB
Fuddle 3600 converter, full race suspension etc....too much to list.
A simple answer is YES...Most definitely! The more surface apply area and holding power you can apply to the band, the longer it will last.
Some others will claim they're not a neccessity, but they're also the same ones that are still having band failure issues. Many won't use them because of their cost.
We choose to not cut corners, so we only use the best.
As a side note, a billet servo will give you a firmer shift, and it will put more stress on the band anchor. Because of this, we only use Alto bands with a reinforced anchor.
*EDIT* If your "trans guy" really told you that, I'd suggest taking it somewhere else. He obviously doesn't know what he's doing.
