New Transmission...

If I was to buy one with all the pieces together, how hard is the installation? Could I do it myself with some nice amateur tools and some time? If I do get a new tranny, what are some nice brands that wont give me any problems? I have heard the stock ones can be kinda weak at times. Thanks.

Pulling a T56 is not bad. You need air tools(1/2 impact and 3/8 air rachet) Leave the bellhousing connected to the engine. 8 bolts around the trans up front. If you tilt the trans down a bit you can get to the bolts easier, use all the 3/8 extension you can get to reach up there. clutch line was a pain!!!

Don'ts I learned the hard way.

1) drain the trans or plug the tail shaft
2) fill the trans through the shifter plate hole when done
3) get help that trans it's heavy. use 2 floor jacks
4) lube the pilot shaft with a little grease when installing
5) take the friggin clutch line off first

get that Ripper or a 5.0 SHIFTER
