New gears and fixing the speedo?

I'm thinking about putting in 3.73's in the spring (I have 3.23's right now). Its ganna cost me $700, and then how do I have the speedo fixed? I don't want to buy a programmer, is there a cheaper way of doing it? Also, has anybody else gone from 3.23's to 3.73's, and is it really worth $700? (and yes i know thats probably a stupid question).

As for the speedo, you can send out your PCM to be programmed for the gear change, and get it tuned to pick up a few ponies while it's out as well. madz28 & PCMforless do this stuff. 3.23's to 3.73s would be a nice change. What do you plan to do with your car in the future? if heads/cam is the answer, might as well get gears out of the way now.

Im thinking about changing out my cam, but Im not sure yet. Maybe just some headers, but we'll see. How much does it cost to send it away?

Re: New gears and fixing the speedo?

$700 is A LOT of money just for gears, especially if you're only goin to 3.73's. I know labor is a little cheaper down here, but I found a good set of used gears for $80 and installed for $250. They were well worth that, but not worth more that $400, IMHO. Get some headers, exhaust (or just a cutout) and a good torque converter. I think that'll help a lot more and I think you'd be happier with the results. Then I'd get some more boltons and do gears right before you're ready for a good tune. That way it'll be more accurate and you'll only have to send it once and it'll last a while AND have a bigger effect.
