New clutch, won't go into R, burn it to the axles?

I just finished installing the new McLeod single disk kevlar and now have the tranny back in. I put the shifter on just to row through the gears without the engine running or the drive shaft installed (the battery is not connected yet). The shifter will not go into reverse. I did nothing to the tranny except drain and refill the fuid and install a new output shaft seal (the tranny was not taken apart at all).

WTF? Is this just the reverse lockout solenoid preventing me from shifting into reverse. I can't see how it could have anything to do with the clutch since this happens without the engine running.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Make sure your key is on and the reverse solenoid is hooked up. If they aren't or if your battery is disconnected you will have to overcome the solenoid with muscle to get in reverse. If everything is hooked up you can hear the solenoid click when you turn on the key. It should still go in reverse even if the solenoid doesn't work. It will just be harder to move the shift lever over. If you still can't get it in reverse try turning the output shaft a little with the trans in neutral. Then try to shift into reverse. I don't think the new clutch has anything to do with your problem.
