needle bearing pilot bushing

I am reassembling after a rebuild. It was $8.00 more for a needle bearing pilot bushing vs a standard one. So I bought it. My question is. which way does it go in the crank? It has a shoulder on one end and the caged bearing on the other. I am thinking the caged bearing goes aft. Because this would hit the transmission input shaft first.anyone?

JMHO, but I like the bushing better. Bearings fail. Bushings don't.

I can confirm SHOEBOX's reply. I replaced a bushing with a bearing (came with the kit), and the bearing came apart a few months later. Moving parts fail....

Re: needle bearing pilot bushing

yeah, I did a search in some corvette forums and everyone there slammed the bearing, so I will put in the bushing. there was also lots of debates/discussions there on lubricating or not lubricating the bushing. Someone had a factory manual shown that says to apply a few drops of machine oil to it...
