Need your honest opinions

Alright, I really want to do 3.73 gears. I have purchased Motive 3.73 gears and an install kit. I currently have a 2 series carrier, but i have a 3 series carrier gear. But, i bought an install kit from ebay that i just recieved that comes with a motive ring gear spacer which makes 2 series fit 3 series gears. The whole install kit can be seen here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7952877923
What i really want to know is if this setup will be alright. I am having a professional install these gears and have heard really good things about him. I DO plan on getting a cover in the near future. I just want to know if my 10 bolt is going to hold all this. And, another question.. will my actual mileage on my speedo be affected with this gear swap? I am going to get my speedo calibrated but will that fix the mileage problem? What do you all think about this setup, and do you think i should do it? Thanks

If the gears are set up properly your 10 bolt should be fine, I assume your car is an A4 also which is easier on the rear. An HD support cover is a very good idea though for added strength.

Any time you are changing gear ratio's your speedo will be affected, if you mean will it record the correct mileage after the speedo is corrected, yes it will.

That set up looks fine to me, may want to run it by your gear installer though to be sure he is familiar with it first.

What i mean by my mileage. I have about 74,000 miles on my car. Will that number be off?

If you run the new gears for a while without having your PCM reprogrammed or getting a gear change/speedo recalibrator then your speedo and your mileage will be off. If you later have the PCM reprogrammed or get the gear/speedo recalibrator it will not 'go back' and fix the wrong mileage, it will just record correctly from then on.

Re: Need your honest opinions

say you have 74,000 miles on your od

You install your 3.73's without reprgromming anything

You drive 100.0 physical miles, but your speedo will be off, and your odometer will say you have driven about 109 miles (about 9% diff between 3.42 and 3.73's)

so now your od now says 74,109 miles

You get your PCM updated to calculate with 3.73 gears (like a used HPP thats been cleared from the previous vin)

Your od will still say 74,109 miles, but from then on, the miles it tracks will match the physical miles you actually drive

so if you drive 100 miles later, it will read 74,209 miles.

* don't get any "bright" ideas btw....

No no, i thought it meant that it would raise your mileage or something. Like add some more that was my real question. That is why i asked it because i was scared it would mess it up.
