Does anyone know where to get a skip shift eliminator at a good price online? i hace a 94 camaro z28 5.7 v8 with a 6spd t56 trans. i hate this 1st to 4th crap but cant find anywhere to buy the harness. any ideas?

Radio Shack ... buy a resistor and stick it's ends into the plug from the PCM. ISTR the value needed is 2.2k ohms. Tape up the fix and tie the plug up out of the way.

 

IIRC on a 94 you can just unplug it as the OBDI computer doesn't turn on the SES for it like the OBDII does.

 

I don't know about the 93 and 94s. In 95 the SES light isn't activated but an open circuit will cause an exception code to be stored in the PCM. If you live in a "3 codes and you fail" state that stored code can be counted. The resistor simulates the load of the solenoid in the transmission so the PCM-CAS test passes.

No SES light will be lit but unless someone reprogrammed the PCM to disable the C.A.R.S. function or inserted a resistor in the plug, there is an error code set and stored in the PCM.

 

93 doesn't set a code because a 93 doesn't have Skip-shift. 94 and 95 set DTC 84. Does not turn on the SES light, does not affect anything. I think the emissions issue is with OBD-II where they tap into the PCM rather than run an emissions check. The normal failure mode seems to be no more than 2 "system not ready" codes.

In any case, the 2 Kohm resistor solves the problem for a few pennies.
