Need New Clutch, down to two choises...

clutch pp and bearing are all shot, and its about time to replace since down the road i will be putting a LE2 package on, in conjunction with the existing 12-bolt. i need to make a choise... Mcleod Single disk, PP and Bearing for $480 + shipping or SPEC stage 3 for $485 plus shipping, i have heard of the SPEC horror stories... but this is a stage 3 rated at 675 ft lbs. for Low $... what would you guys recomend?

and i know the tranny will go before the clutch will, cant it handle 475 - 500 ft/lbs before it starts going? and also, do any of you know what the Mcleod single disk is rated at?

I say its not worth the chance. I'm using a Mcleod disk with the stock fly and PP, and it works great.

How many Mcleod's have you heard of exploding?

So if that hub comes apart and takes out the input shaft...SPEC takes care of everything? Nope.

Even if it was just the clutch that needs replacement.......thats more work for you. While fully capable of working on my own car, I don't enjoy crawling around to replace a clutch that should not have failed.

i hear where you are coming from birdman... do you know the Ft/Lbs. that the clutch holds to? i think im going to go with the Mcleod, look Here. Would all i need for the install (excluding flywheel) is part #'s 37-261871 & 37-360822?

FWIW, I broke a McLeod disc within 5k miles with the stock LT1.

I had a Spec stage 3 before and it was great, and lasted very well. i would probably run one again. I wouldn't compare those 2 clutches. The Mcleod looks like a nice setup for a mild engine but i am not sure its near as strong as the Spec...just my thoughts.

I wont argue with these guys anymore about which is better, but if you decide to go with Mcleod, those are the correct part #'s.

Spec, spec, spec! Nothing agaisnt Mcleod though.

I send out worn out crap stock Ferrari 360 clutch's to spec and in return I get a gorgeous part back. You could never tell what it looked like before. I always get the stg 2 setup with the kevlar disc b/c that keeps the F1 systems in the car happy. I just sent my stock LT1 clutch to them and have gotten it back. I got a new stg 3 disc with my old pp that was redone and from what David @ spec told me, they have have a new setup for the Lt1 cars were they have different pivot points on the pp and said my old stocker is now good for 700hp. Not to mention it took them 2 days to do it.

And I wont even begin to describe the customer service. If you know anything about a 360, you know the clutch is the weak link and the F1 likes to eat up clutchs, a long life for a 360F1 clutch is 25k miles. And Spec knows this, and they know the driver has no control on shifting and how the computer "rides" the clutch so break in is kinda iffy and they still stand behind there product.

Any car that I ever own that is a Manual and needs a clutch I will look no where else.
