Need Info/Advice on 1st Gen Conversion from Auto to Manual
I'm new to this particular board, and hate to ask a tired old question, but here goes..... I am looking for a 1st Gen project car that I hope to put a crate big-block and 4-speed in, but the only bare chassis or affordable "needs work" cars I am finding are automatics. Also, all of the big built-up cars seem to have autos in them. I know they are quicker, but I gotta have my 4-speed.
What is involved in converting a factory automatic car to manual? Are the holes for the linkage, etc., all where they are supposed to be? How about under the dash for the pedals? I'm not even sure if the 67-69 cars had a slave cylinder or manual linkage. I just want to know if this is a fairly straightforward conversion, and if the necessary parts are available at a dealership if I can't find them in a boneyard.
I can really narrow my search if this is a common retro-fit. I can weld, and some of that wouldn't bother me. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would sincerely appreciate some advice on this if anyone has either done it or knows of it being done.... with all the automatics out there, somebody has to have done this before.
Many thanks!!!

Never done it myself, but I do have both a 67 with an auto and a 67 with a manual (albeit 3spd). No slave cylinder, all manual linkage. You'll need to get a complete pedal assembly and z-bar to do the conversion (plus all the linkage of course.)
Check out the tech forum at http://www.camaros.net more 67-69 Camaro owners/fans/modifiers hang out over there.
I'd keep looking if I were you. There are plenty of manual project cars out there if you know where to look.

Thanks Very Much!
I really appreciate your response.... just knowing that it is manual linkage is very helpful. I will move over to the other site and see if i can find someone who has done it.
