Need info about 6spd swap. Search=No Luck.

I have a 1998 Z28. The car is an automatic and I cant stand it anymore. I will be doing the conversion over to M-6 ASAP! There is a set up for sale close by which seems to have everything necessary for the swap.

I just basically need to know what is involved. What are the most difficult parts, things I should be aware of before tearing this car apart? What are some problems that I should expect? My brother is a pretty top notch mechanic and says he shouldn't have a problem doing it. His car runs single digits and is has a ton of custom work done.
I just need all the heads up I can get.

Thanks
Justin

It would be cheaper just to buy an M6 car.
The resale would be much better too,
would you buy a conversion, I know I wouldn't.
Your just opening a whole ball of wax.

Loco, if he buys another car...then he's got the problem of trying to sell his (that could take a while).

This is a writeup for a A4 - M6 swap, it's for '93-'97s so there are a few minor differences but it should help:

BLKWS6 on ls1tech.com did the swap (in a '99 WS6), I'd e-mail him with any questions: jason99ws6@aol.com

I fully understand trying to sell one of these in PA
nearing December but you could also get a great deal
and sell it in spring if finances allow or suck up the
tradein hit and figure it still to be less than a T56 and
other parts plus you won't have to worry about future
headaches and having a car worth far less because of
your "customizing". Seriously, don't underestimate how
much depreciating you'd be doing. NO one will
pay good money for someone else's project. Not only
will you not see a dime of the money you invest you'll
also lose thousands for tampering and altering the car
so much. Were aren't taking adding a lid here.
Trading in or buying another allows you to
buy equitity in something not just throwing it away.
This way the purchase will have a value of its own.
Just something to think about, good luck with whatever
you do.

How would it be cheaper just to buy an M6? He won't be able to sell his 98 for near what it's worth and it probably won't cover the cost of buying another 98 that has an M6.

So let's see....spend ~$1500 for a conversion or try and sell your current car and hope to get enough out of it so you don't have a large lien on the 98 you just bought only for the fact that it has an M6 in it already. Sounds pretty absurd to me.

Do the swap...they are done all the time and as far as depreciating the value of the car on the chance you might sell it in 10 years....well just take a look at what an early LT1 is worth right now....nowhere near the cost it was new.

Sorry loco....fbody's don't hold their value near enough to justify financing another car strictly because it has an M6.

Do the swap...you like it, you'll love it, you'll want more of it.

Believe me if I could sell the car i would. Problem is I have tons of stuff already done to it and it's finnaly looking the way i want.
Not to mention i owe some money and don't want to take any losses right now.

I don't feel that doing the swap would trash the value of the car. It's not like i'm going to leave anything half ***. I'd be surprised if anyone even knew it was swaped when done. I'm a perfectionist.

I do However understand that it might open a small can of worms. Specially messing with wires and all. I just don't think it would be that big of a deal.

I'm gonna do some info on a cam swap to take my mind off the 6spd. My brother thinks i should just get it to pull a little harder and i'll enjoy the Automatic better in the long run.

Any thoughts?

Hey im doing the swap right now. So far it has been a great experience. I have been using this link as my guide which has been a life saver. http://www.afrashteh.com/tranny_pics/T56.htm
So far I have had no hang ups, I have the old tranny out, old pedals out, new pedals in, hydraulics installed, new flywheel installed, hole cut for the shifter. Basicallky I have done everything up to the point of mounting up the 6 speed. It is easy, just take your time, and do it right, it should be well worth it. Nothing too complicated at all!

I didn't really consider having to remod another.
I'd be pretty pissed though if I found out I bought
a car off someone that didn't tell me something like that.
How come your so into have a manual now?
Didn't you consider that from the start.
Personaly I wouldn't own an automatic so I know
what you mean.
