Need help with transmission problem

97 Z28, A4 with 125k miles. Car was running well till yesterday on my way home. I stopped to pay the toll and while pulling out (in a normall way, not flooring it) I noticed that the transmission won't shift to the next gear until the RPM reach about 3-3.5K. After that that things appear normal. I reset the PCM but still the same.
I can't repair it myself, but I would like to know what it might be since I don't want to get ripped off by the stealer. Any help is appreciated.

Man I wish I could help you. I have been having the same problem for a few months now! I posted a similar thread and no one has replied. I would like to know as well. I am thinking that mine is one of the clutch packs but I am just guessing

Mine did the same thing for a while. Then this past week it got progressively worse till it wouldn't shift out of 1st till 40mph and it won't shift out of second. Had to drive on the freeway and at 55mph I was at 5,000rpm. Needless to say, that tranny is blown. I am getting one built by Dana at Pro-Built Automatics now.
