there's a dipstick in the engine bay
consult the owner's manual for location of it in there

Evidently you have never been under the hood of a C5....so you have no clue why you posted.....there is nothing about checking it in the owners manual via dip stick tube.....anybody else?

god i wish the corvette forum was back up....

Re: Need help with Tranny in 98 C5

the fact that the tranny is in the REAR of the car may have somthing to do with why theres no dipstick at the FRONT.

as to how to check it, i dont know. never looked into it. my suggestion however would be to buy a factory service manual for it. they're invaluable for working on your car.

not in a corvette.

http://www.idavette.net/hib/C5diy/c5diy2.htm

quote from link:
Not only is it specific to the rear transmission layout, but it's beefed-up over C4 4L60-Es with a more robust torque converter, a new fluid pan for more consistent fluid pressure during high lateral acceleration and revised calibration.
obviously the page was made when the C5 is new, but its still valid.

in anycase, it took me a whole 5 seconds on google to find how to check it.. in the future, you may want to expand your search to outside of the car message board world.

well i'll be damned...i was always told the automatic was still up front but the manual was in the back...and Robvas had a point...of what he said was pretty much in my owners manual...something about not having to be checked....i wonder how much a service manual costs for one of these cars?

Re: Need help with Tranny in 98 C5

no.

what the owners manual basicly says is, the mechanic checks it when you bring it to the dealership for a tuneup.

the reason for that is, theres no dipstick.
i didnt want to say it until i checked, but yea, you pull a plug to check it, just like a manual..... athough, unlike a manual, its suppost to be running when you do so.

so just like you "dont change" trans fluid in a manual, you "dont change" it in the auto C5...... the dealership does.
