NEED HELP...problems shifting...

When I am driving the car 1st and 2nd gear are choppy....and they are not crisp shifts....after first i usually hear a backfire...from 3-6 its goood...and this happens from a stop....any ideas from what i said...thanks Jason

Most common problem with an individual shifts is, bad syncro's, chipped gear tooth, or bent shift fork. Bent shift forks are "fairly" common.
The other problem sounds like engine management. Should never backfire!
