Need help with a "CE" engine code for 302

I am restoring a 1969 Camaro Z28. The engine that came with the car does not have a typical "DZ" suffix on the engine ID pad. The stamping reads "CE239753". I have been led to believe that the "CE" means Chevrolet Engine and/or Counter Exchange. The block is a 3970010 casting with a casting date of May 22, 1972 (E222). Is the 239753 an old GM part number for the 290 HP 302 replacement engine? It looks like this car had a warranty claim sometime in the 1972-74 time frame and this engine was installed at a Chevrolet dealer. The engine has the correct 3" stroke #1178 crankshaft and four bolt mains with the windage tray. The pistons are domed high compression units and the camshaft lifters are solids. Does anyone on this forum have any info on the service part nubmer for a 290 HP 302 V8 engine?? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. - Pete in Michigan
