Need CClip Eliminators for 4.56s???

The mechanic just started to put my 4.56s into the rear, and he said that the cause of failure was that the pin broke, and the debris from that chewed up the ring gear. Anyway, he is now saying that he can't fit the new pin / C Clips back into the rear, because the 4.56s are too thick. I don't understand, because I had 3.42s before, and I was under the impression that all 3 series gears (3.23 - 4.56) would just "drop in" with my 3 series carrier.

I hope someone knows something... Please Help!!!

OK, another shop told me:

Take a die grinder to one tooth of the ring gear, and grind 1/4 - 5/16 of an inch off the height (where the pinion isn't even coming in contact with the ring gear.

They said that the pin should be able to slide in and out more freely, so that the C Clips can be installed this way.

Are they INSANE? Will this kill the reliability / integrity of the gear? Or, is this a pretty proven, OK thing to do?

By the way, I'm not sure if I mentioned that this is on a 7.5" 10 bolt.

Personally, I's either go with the C-Clip elimins, or it's 12-bolt/9" time...

You have a torsen don't you? Mine was the same way with the 4.11s. Its just a thing you have to deal with, or you can buy a 2 piece pin from SLP for like $80 bucks. Just grind down the teeth a bit. Hell, I did it, then broke the rear (slicks did it in - ring and pionion are fine) still going strong on an auburn. Also, an auburn won't have that problem.

I thought I had the aburn, but I could be wrong.

I had him grind the tooth a bit.. knock on wood, it's still running strong.

I beat on it waaay too much though (1st, 2nd, 3rd, bottom of 4th burnouts to 6500rpm like 5 or 6 times a day).. I have a fear that this rear won't last that long

Buut... 4.56s are hella fun!
