If the trans is hitting 250 when does this happen. When the converter is locked and your at cruising speeds the temp should be similar to stock . A s far as cooling use the largest cooler you can fit and for your combo assuming theres no issue with the converter or blockage of the cooler that should be plenty for most climates . You dont say what cooler you have or how its run so thats why I just say the largest you can fit . A fan never hurts either but if the coolers in front of the rad you shouldnt need it.

I have a B&M supercooler, stock pan and my trans never gets above 180 degrees even in the summer stop and go driving. My pan is tapped for the temp bung in the bottom.

Don't just throw money at the problem, find out where the reading is coming from.

I think part of the problem is the trans cooler you are running. I hear that the "stacked plate" design is much better at cooling the fluid over the "tube and fin" design that you are currently running. Frank (12SCNDZ) can give you the specifics on that.

I have a 4K verter with the B&M 24K cooler. Mine rarely gets up to 200 and when it does its in traffic and really hot out. But like stated above, once it lcks up, the temps drop pretty quick.

Is it possible that they hooked up the cooler before the stock cooler, instead of after?

That does sound like a good possibility though I am still wondering where he is taking the reading from , My experince has been that if its off the presure port what your really reading is the case temp tans fluild at its hotest position,

I had mine hooked up to that before, and now it is tapped right into the pan.. It was a little hotter before, maybe ~15 degrees or so, according to EFIlive but have not compared it to EFIlive with it in the pan though.

Frank says that tube and fin coolers can actually increase the transmission temperature due to the amount of 180° bends increasing pressure, hence increasing heat. I agree with him on that.

We disagree on bypassing the radiator. I put one of those Long Tru-Cool transmission coolers in. Stacked plate and big (11x12"). Part # 4490. Bypassed the radiator. In 94° and 64% humidity, stop and go traffic, with air conditioning on, I had 240° radiator temps. The transmission cooler was at 184°.

I am not sure about the bends in the tube and fin having much effect but I can say th flat panel coolers are much more efficent .
