How do I know what rear gears my car came with?

 

look at the rpo code in the glove box- gu*something* . there is another thread similia to this that has the rpo meanings.

 

either 2.73 or 3.23 depending on the options and if they are stock gears . . . of course that is if the LT1 cars were offered with the same gears as the LS1 cars

you can check your RPO codes (door or glove box sticker) to see what you have - there are either posts or links to explanations of what the various RPO codes are on this board, a search should turn that info up

 

GU2 = 2.73
GU4 = 3.08(V6 autos)
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42(V8 manuals)

If you can select 1st gear then you have 3.23

 

according to the RPO's above I have 2.73 but I can select first gear since I cut that peice of rubber out of the shifter.

 

Not necessarily - that is a year specific feature - I know I can put the tranny in 1st in my '02 Z28 with 2.73's
