My CPT 700R4 is down again.

This was a Pro-Race Built 700R4 CPT Transmission that I bought in the late spring of 2008 and installed that summer. The Trans went south that fall with less than 6 months on it. Frank told me to send it back and he'd make it right.

I got my Trans back around 6 months later after much frustration regarding UPS Shipments and it worked great. Well today while trying to Tune my new Nitrous setup, the trans went south again.

This is the same problem that it had the last time is broke, 2nd slips and will not shift into 4th.

I am about ready to put my T-56 back in but I really like the Auto. I am not comfortable sending the trans back to CPT with all of the problems he is having, but I really don't want to drop another 2-3 grand on a replacement.

At this point any suggestions would be helpful.

CPT is done for. You won't be sending it back there.

Find another shop to fix it.

A good chunk of the cost in building a high end transmission goes into the part upgrades. I'd check with the site supporters to see if you can get one of them to repair your transmission at a reduced cost since you already have the upgraded hard parts in the trans.

Talked to Performabuilt Friday and they told me that they would let me know Monday if they would do the repair.

I did learn that one of the problems I am having with this trans is that a Manual Valve body in a 700R4 runs full line pressure 100% of the time which is very hard on the trans. They indicated that they would not sell this combination as it is not a good idea. They indicated that if they do repair the 700R4 they would need to install an auto valve body which will allow the line pressure to be modulated as a function of the TV Cable.

Well I'm headed out to the garage to yank this transmission out....again.

tranny

My Performabuilt level2 lifts my front tires! 10.52 @130. I would reccomend them. I got the tranny in about a week, my buddy with a ls1 vette liked the way mine shifted so much he ordered one also. We are both happy with the performance. Good custmer service is what u want, and they are great. Im sure if you look on the boards you will hear mostly good things about them with isolated negative comments. There are other places that build a good unit as well. Look at the sponsers on this site and some of the other sites like ls1tech to see other good builders.

Unfortunately Performabuilt did not want to do the repair.

I really need to see if I can get this transmission fixed as I have already dropped a good chunk of change on the hard parts. So I sent the transmission up to Hughes Transmission in Phoenix. They told me that they would tear it down and provide an estimate for repair. They do build some pretty stout transmissions and they did sound like they knew their stuff.

This will probably work out better in that they are local and the Trans should be in Phoenix today. I was told that I should get a quote this afternoon and with any luck I might have the Transmission back early next week.

I hope all goes well....I would not think an auto would hold alot without alot of good hard parts. How much are you spraying?

Got the trans back this afternoon and it looks great. Unfortunately it still cost me a lot to get it repaired. The valve body was changed from a manual valve body to an Auto so I am waiting on a TV Cable and throttle bracket off of a 93 before I can put it back in.

I was tuning a 100 HP Shot of juice when the trans let go. I will likely stick with the 100 shot for now.
