Estimate Cost of Clutch Replacement?
Re: Estimate Cost of Clutch Replacement?
who's doing the work? if you do it yourself the cost of the clutch, lol. Replacements run from 300-1200 so you can pick and choose there. If your having a shop do it i would guess around $600-800.
Re: Estimate Cost of Clutch Replacement?
Not a huge job, but a lot depends on the local labor rate. The cost of doing business is very high around here, so our shop is at $82/h (at the high end locally). In a non-socialist state, especially in a rural area, you might pay half of that. It ought to be about a 4h job, but to be honest I have never done just a clutch. It's always been in combo with something else. So, a clutch is one of those jobs where the parts are more than the labor. Kind of refreshing in that respect.

Re: Estimate Cost of Clutch Replacement?
i did mine by myself with a craftsman 137 piece tool kit, 4 -6 ton jackstands and a crappy 2 ton jack, took me 2 days but i wasn't starting untill noon each day and was taking my time, there are some good writeups online, its pretty much removal and reverse. The belhousing bolts ate a pita to get to tho, be prepaired to use multiple extensions and u-joints.

It's not a hard job really. But it's a hell of a lot easier on a lift with good tools and lighting, etc. If you have a buddy to help, it's owrth a try. OTOH, at $40 an hour, I would say take it to a shop unless you have more time than money. It will take you a LOT longer than four hours, more like 12+ without a lift and with no prior clutch jobs under your belt.
