Is my clutch going out?

Ive got a 2000 ss m6 and ill be honest I dont know a lot about clutches but heres what my cars doing. Sometimes when I shift it will grind the gears with the clutch to the floor, every once in a while it will sqeek when relseseing the clutch, it has always been kind of hard getting it in gear from a stop, and just tonight I put my good tires in the back and I noticed when I step on it its slipping in 1st and a little in second. My car has around 400 hp with 373 gears so I was not sure if my clutch is going out or if I just need a stronger one to handle that power?

If you're having trouble engaging the transmission into gear, then your problem is more than likely a master/slave cylinder related problem.

How many miles on the clutch? What kind of clutch? The slipping in first could very well be power related. If you are having trouble getting in gear with the pedal to the floor, it could be that the clutch is not fully disengaging, which could be a hydraulic or clutch issue. Try bleeding the hydraulics first.

Its weird it seems to just be random... most of the time I can get it into gear ok but sometimes I really have to force it or take my foot off the pedal and then push it back in to get it in gear. Also I am not sure if this means anything but the clutch disengages and engages a tiny bit from the floor where as on my friends 96 m6 its almost as soon as you push the pedal down. I guess I am just trying to figure out where to start, because I dont want to buy the wrong part or what not. I guess I will start with bleeding the hydraulics?

Oh and I am not sure what kind of clutch or how long its been in the car... I got the car from a dealer about a year ago and they said they would give the guy my # and have him tell me more about the about the car... but I think they said that just to get me out the door because I never heard from him.

I had a similar problem. It started with the pedal engaging and disengaging different than normal, and the pedal would get soft. Then it would seem to fix itself after driving for a while.

About a month later it was really hard to shift in all gears, and reverse was damn near impossible. Then it fixed itself. I replaced the MC with a McLeod one, and no change. Then I went to replace my clutch, and found one of the disc springs had snapped in half. After the clutch swap, drives like new again.

Hopefully it's not the clutch, but since yours is already slipping you might consider replacing it anyway. But I would still try bleeding the hydraulics first and see if that helps.

Thanks thats good to know! Hopefully its not the clutch but as you said if its already slipping I mine as well get a new one. I want to get something that will be able to suport my set up now, my friend was saying that he got a ram hd and it worked really well. What do you guys recomend for a good clutch that can handel 400-415hp with a 373 gear? This is my dd but I still love to drive it like its ment to be driven and go to the 1/4 mile from time to time
