Are my auto shifts normal?

The car shifts around 6k and once it hits the next gear the rpms start around 4500 or so? It seems a grand or 2 too high. Is this normal?

I'm coming from a being a 10yr 3rd gen TPI ownership where power is done by 4500 but I can't remember where the rpms are at after it shifts. So I'm not used to Lt1 auto cars yet.

Here's a link to a gear calculator to help: http://www.f-body.org/gears/

Depending on how much your torque convertor slips between shifts, your rpm will continue to rise until your next gear "takes hold".

Well, I made another thread regarding some idle issues. The guy who responded said it sounds like a torque converter problem. If I sit at a light, there is a grinding buzzing sound so annoying that I have to put it in N at a light to make it stop. Then once the light turns green, I drop it in D and the grinding ceases until I give it gas then it grind for a few mph then ceases above 20-30mph.

But, back to your reply, I have no idea what the gear ratios are in the automatic. So I can't fill that chart out properly. Do you know them off hand?

Click on the top and you will get a choice of car years that will automatically populate the fields for you.

Okay, I did that, now I'm not sure what I'm looking at. Can you explain what each column represents. I get the gears from left to right, and RPMs from top to bottom, but what are the numbers telling me? Sorry, not being a dick but I am mildly retarded.

that should tell you what engine rpm's you should have in what gear at what speed

so for example, 30mph and 60 mph
while your cruising at 30, check your engine rpm's, and record them
same for 60
see if the engine rpm's match up in the chart for what gear you are in and how fast you are going

if the engine rpm in the chart is alot lower than what you are getting, you have alot of slipping or maybe a faulty tachometer
