In the middle of pulling out the tranny, a couple Q's?

I'm in the middle of pulling out my tranny, and have a couple q's. First, I pulled the actuater without disconnecting the master cylinder. Did I mess anything up? I haven't pushed the clutch pedal in or anything. Also, the fork you're supposed to pull down, the only way it'd pull it back towards the rear of the vehicle, is that correct? Or should I pull it out, and then bring it down? I was confused on that part. I had to stop, my jack couldnt get the car high enough, oh well, a good excuse to get a better one ! =) Thanks guys!

As long as you don't push on the cltch pedal with the slave cylinder out you're fine. You're also correct that the clutch fork gets pulled out towards the back of the car.
