Messed up, 4L60e!

Hi, i think i messed up big time.
Changed converter, aligned and made sure it got all the way in.
But somehow during the assembly it probably poped out or the converter is not a perfect fit.

I did not see this when i tighten the bolts, but could almost not rotade the engine when i should assamble the converter bolts

Took the tranny down again and removed the converter:

I'am afraid a broke the "ears" on the pump wheel in the picture, it's kind of loose?

and should there not be two "ears", one at each side?

Do you think it's enough to buy a pump renovation kit?
if yes, is it a "non PWM" pump, 10 or 13 wings?
Please advice, this is so depressing.

What year? 94 93? Not a PWM/TCC. Should be just a 30 spline input shaft. Also you would want to double check the measurements of how far the converter goes in compared to a stock one. What do the scar rings look like on the converter you took out?

94 Z28 A4 known mods... reworked ported heads/intake. Cam, 3" cat back flowmaster. unknown PCM tune. still researching car. ...

1990 RS HO 305, TH350(shift kit). 4 barrel carb, Cam, Long tube headers.

It's a -94 No PWM marking on the pump housing.
Don't know what scar rings are, but here is a picture on the converter:

Guess i broke off the "ears" of the pump wheel..

Still strange the converter was chafing against the clips over the sealing?
I will measure.. as preposed.

Maybe order a new pump is the best way to go?

The clip that holds the seal on if disturbed can be a pain in the a@#. It could be backed off a tad bit to hit the converter. What did the converter come out of? Also the scarring rings I'm referring to are on the converter shaft usually made by the seal from wear or from misalignment.

Re: Messed up, 4L60e!

Baught the converter on ebay.
So no "scarring rings" not on the old converter either.. not what i can see atleast.

Nice to hear that it's not only me having trouble with that clip..
Bet i'am not the first to mess up the pump either
Learning the hard way.

Baught a complete remanufactured pump assembly.
Also baught a Transgo HD2 shift kit, if i'am to mess with the tranny why not...
It has only run 69000miles, so hopefully the other parts in it is ok.

Re: Messed up, 4L60e!

It was the pump.

New pump installed together with transgo HD2 shift kit.
Measured very carefully and checked that the converter where installed correct before tightening the bolts this time.

Works like a dream

2800 stall speed seams perfect for everyday driving.
Need some more power thou...

It's always fun to finally get it to work!

Here a "tip" I followed when installing the Transgo HD2 kit, and it turned out to be a good one for my car.
I have more or less a stock LT1 z28 with a 2800 stall speed converter.

-Only assemble the golden bracket/seat in the second servo if it's housing starts with an 8. (The manual said 1-3 schims + the golden bracket/seat)
The shifting from first to second gear is crisp and without slip.

Just be careful with the power shifts from first to second with a stock 4l60e. Too much abuse can easily have you back In the trans in no time.
