Mcleod and tranny problems

about a week ago out of the blue my clutch started making noise while the peddle was down. car wouldnt go without loud grinding noise so i got it towed home and pulled the tranny and on both clutch discs the teeth in the center are stripped and it stripped the input shaft on my tranny. the clutch is just a year old. any ideas what may have happened. r any one had a problem like this happen.

i cant think af anything that would have caused this, but im not to happy about it. also any one know how long the warrentee is on a mcloed

Your input shaft let go and took the clutch splines with it. Seen that before. You will never tear the splines out of the discs other wise-- don't care how hard or how many Banzi launches it's had.

how does your input shaft let go? to me it would be the other way around, what torque would a input shaft put on the clutch wouldnt it be the other way around

Your input shaft is softer than the clutch hub(not as hard on a Rockwell test) and it is not spring cushioned and when it starts wearing it wears the hub then more wear on the shaft then more wear on the hub. It's a vicious cycle until everything lets go. I have seen the T-56 input shaft twisted and not wear the splines and cause a no shift problem where the clutch disks couldn't release(float) to change gears.

how did the pilot bearing look? maybe it went bad and the input shaft had excessive play? ive seen people rip the center hub out of the clutch disc b4, so that is possible. its called a lot of traction and a hard launch. if the disc was semi defective, it could have popped the hub. does the tranny still turn nicely in gear by hand? check every gear.

Re: Mcleod and tranny problems

I've heard about this happening a couple times lately.
A guy in AZ just had this happen on a LS1 car.
I've only heard about it happening with Mcleod clutches which seems like it must have something to do with their clutch too.

well im gonna give Mcleod a call if i can ever get ahold of them. maybe ill just email. seems to me if the clutch teeth are supposed to be harder the the input shaft then it should just wipe out the teeth on there
