McLeod single: Will it hold?

I'm going to be replacing my worn SLP clutch with a McLeod single disk and PP. At the same time I will be adding a NX 75- 100 shot. Will the clutch hold? I don't run slicks(M/T radials) and won't be launching at 5k( more like 2500). I've heard differing opinions on this...
Thanks, Matt

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

FYI, McLeod makes 2 single disks for the T56:
One for shifts up 5500rpm (street)
Another for shifts up to 7500rpm (performance)

I'd think the performance one would be fine. I think I'm going to go with the LT4 PP/McLeod performance disk combo myself.

I was going to use that combo, but the cheapest price I could find on the LT4 PP was 312, so I just went with the McLeod PP (which is a Valeo like all the rest). It should go in saturday. I'm counting on it holding about 420rwhp. The LT4 PP/McLeod combo was recomended to me by a guy running a blown 383 with a ton of passes at the track, so I'm thinking it should be pretty stout.

I have the performance disk. I wanted to go with the LT4 PP, but SLP doesn't make it anymore...

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

I had a McCleod performance disk and a LT4 pp. I have 327 rwhp on motor. Put on top of that 100 hp of NX shot - it lasted one pull in the quarter. Went on in second&third gear (3000-5800rpm). Slippery every since. Now I have Spec 3 sitting in the garage.

I would have gone with a SPEC but I've read too many stories about the springs popping out of the disk...

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

I don't know, I put one in and couldn't get it to engage. Couldn't shift my car. Tried everything even replacing the slave cylinder. Ended up buying a cheap clutch at autozone and it shifts fine. Only problem is, the cheap clutch won't hold up long.

I have one, with a generic Valeo PP from Vatozone.

It works perfect on my bolt on/hotcam car. Very nice.

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

I have the 7500 rpm single McLeod and am happy with it. Got an Autozone clutch kit for cheaper than most sell the PP for and just tossed the rest of the stuff. Their kit comes with a LT4 style PP.
With whats in my signature I have had no trouble with slipping. It chirps 3rd with ease. In all fairness I haven't had sticky tires on the car yet, just stock radials. I am pretty rough on it though.

I had a stage 3 that broke the retainer and the spring popped out. Trans shop said downshifting under heavy load will do that. Get a stage 4; no springs and i heard the streetability is just a little less than the stage 3. Im starting to lean from away from SPEC myself because i have a stage 2 now and its already slipping w/ 6k miles and no track passes. Might have been installed wrong cuz im not that bad of a driver. Also had the steel flywheel w/ the clutch, i assume that it could be installed out of the box.

I was considering the new stage 3+.. doesn't appear to be any springs with that and is suppose to have good streetability.

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

Stage 3+ has springs. The stage 3 that was on mine i put 10k miles on it and the owner before put 15-20k miles when the car had a cc305. Stage 4 and 5 dont have springs. Theres pics of all the Spec clutches on lmperformance.com and youre also looking at $150 more for the plus upgrade so a mcleod single might be better.

Re: McLeod single: Will it hold?

Just got the car back from my mechanic. Disengagement is almost to the floor. I'm hoping that changes during the break in...
