McLeod Single Disk Problems

After driving my car for a while, it becomes difficult to get into gear when at a dead stop. Reverse is the most difficult but I can usually get first gear if I roll forward a little bit. It also helps if I rev. the engine a little. It is a rebuilt T-56 w/ a new fly wheel, new McLeod single disc setup, new hydraulics w/ an adjustable Master Cylinder that I made. I can't make the slave extend anymore b/c it causes the fork to grind against the pressure plate. It only happens after driving the car a while. I did a search and it seems others w/ the McLeod single disc have this problem to. Can anyone help me fix this?

I am having the exact same problem.

Hopefully, Rich Krause can shed some light.

Try your old "unmodifed" clutch hydraulics first.

I've tried it all, the adjustable M.C. was my last resort. I have tried the original hydraulics, the brand new G.M. unit that I bought and the adjustable unit that I just made. Thanks for input thought. Any other ideas?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bent clutch disc. I sent it back to McLeod. I don't know if they had a bad batch or whatever, but I remember a bunch of people having this problem last summer.

PatriotTA-

Did you have the problem all the time, or only after everything had heated up? It makes me wonder if my disc is bent b/c I bought my disc around March of 2003. What did McLeod end up doing for you?? I'm going to call them tomorrow. Thanks

I bought my disc about 1 1/2 months ago, and yes the problem happens when the motor warms up.

The last time I was out, I notice that if I let the car roll foward it would slip into reverse more easily when trying to get out of a parking space.

When I was having problems, I couldn't disengage the clutch to move into any gear. It didn't matter if the car was stone cold or warmed up. It was pretty bad. I sent the disc back to McLeod and they said yep, it was bent, and refunded my money back to Thudner Racing where I bought it from. HTH

once I get the disc out, will it be obvious if it is bent? Could you tell by looking at your disc?

I bought the MCcleod single the same time PatriotTa did and I have the same problems as all of you combined. Im just dealing with it untill I burn it up and hopfully it wont damaged the tranny to much?

It is one tuff clutch on a positive note...I have over 100 pases on it using nittos..I slip the crap out it for fun ( trying to burn it up ) and beat the **** out of it evertime I drive the car for the pass 8,000 miles and it still grabs like it is brand new...I dont think I can kill this clutch. Thats the only reason Its still in the car!!

I may try to do the same thing, b/c I really don't want to pull the trans again any time soon. There are a few ways to get around it like rolling forward a bit or reving the engine, this usually helps it fall into gear. Also, I don't think my disc is bent but maybe it is just a little too thick. I'm hopeing that over time when the disc wears down a little the problem may get better. Thanks for all the responses

I've looked at quite a few clutches in my day, and I couldn't tell mine was bent when I inspected it before installation.
