McLeod SFI bellhousing in car install pics & advice...

Though i'd post some pics of my install from this week of the McLeod sfi bellhousing in my camaro. This is an in car install also for all you garage floor guys. Some advice to those out there from what i experienced. The 3 bottom tranny to bellhousing bolt holes did not exactlly line up when the tranny was mated to the bellhousing. I had all the other bolts in and the tranny was up against the bellhousing (tranny pins were also in the bellhousing). I had to take a die grinder and elongate the holes a bit to give room for the bolts. They weren't off by much, but just enough to not be able to get the bolts threaded in. I would STRONGLY recommend test fitting the bellhousing to the tranny while your tranny is out BEFORE installing it on the engine. Make sure all your bolts will thread in. The only other real issue i had were the 2 bellhousing bolts (10:00 and 2:00 positions) that bolt the bellhousing to the block. McLeod give you allen head bolts. There isn't a lot of space up there so i couldn't get an allen socket up in there. It would hit the trans tunnel. Not a lot of room for an allen wrench either and would be hard to tighten them up if you tried to use one. I replaced these bolts with 12 point bolts. I was then able to get a shallow 12 point socket on them with an extension and torque them down. I think i lucked out on header clearence too. I'm running Kooks LT's and had good clearence. Some may run into clearence issue with other types of LT's. You can see in the pics. Close on the passenger side. And if you don't want to do any of this work, i now have an Exotic Muscle bellhousing blanket now for sale since i won't need it anymore. If interested, just PM me. Anyway, here's some pics.

Theres a reason stuff has sfi stamps on it, not just because your track says so.

Having a clutch try to take your leg off is no joke. I know you can't tell it from the pics but a piece actually came through and left a nice crater in the tunnel too. The hub seperated from the clutch entirely.

What kind of clutch was that and how were you treating it when it let go?

Don't have the P/N number at the moment, but i picked it up from Summit Racing. It was $450 if i remember correctly. Test fit the bellhousing to the tranny before the install just to make sure all the holes line up. Will save you some trouble if they happen to not line up.
