Manual tranny alternative to T56?
Manual tranny alternative to T56?
I have an LT1 that I am building up. 383+ N20. Should be good for 450hp on motor 600+hp on N20 at the tire. It will be primarly a street car with plenty of track use. I want to keep a manual trans with a clutch but do not want a T56. I had to many issues with clucthes when the car was stock and I have seen to many of the stock trannies grenade on cars with real power. I know there are upgrades availble for them but they seem pricey and still not that great.
So what I am looking for is an alternative. who has had luck with other trannies. I would imaging anything that would bolt up to a SBC would work with the LT1. I dont need 2 overdrives but one would be nice. I just want something strong, streetable and reliable.
Any ideas?

A T56 is mated up to Vipers, Vettes, Cobras, etc. and they all can make serious power. I'm not sure what issues you had with yours but IMO if it's done right the T56 is the best manual tranny out there....other than Lennco or something of that nature.
Taner is running 9s with his t56...upgraded of course.
you can find several companies that build them to handle 1000hp...so something for 600 shouldn't be a problem.
what are the old muncie rock crushers rated to??

go see the guys at D&D in wixom or T56 rebuilds
while your trans is apart cryo everything! then put it back together with the complimentary viper upgrades, and brass fork pads, billet keys. build it once build it right. if you don't minf shipping your trans out you cuold contact Joe @ T56 rebuilds, they are in Texas, they also will take care of you!!!! either way you win with a quality build! that is the most economical way without going to G force components, etc....
g'luck! believe me it will work.

I wouldnt suggest swapping trannys. Basically, the only tranny in the same BALLPARK in price to a T56 is a TKO600. Those are pretty strong, but then again... you probably wont grenade a T56.
The T56 is a world class tranny. I would highly suggest you keep the T56.
