Question Magnet in 4L60E?

Is there supposed to be a magnet in the pan of a 1997 Firebird's 4L60E?

I just pulled the transmission fluid pan and there was none. GM didn't leave it out to protect some sort of computer did they? It was probably left out by the last shop to change the fluid, right?

Thanks

Yes, there is suppose to be a magnet. Collects any little metal shavings that happen to appear so it doesn't ruin the transmission. There is also a magnet in the different cover.
