M6 Guys who went to 3.73 gears
Is it worth it? The install will only cost me a case of beer so dont put that into consideration. And only guys that actually went up to 3.73's not guys who went straught to 4.11's and say 3.73's arent worht it. Is there no difference than stock, a little difference, a good difference, or a wow diference? Thanks
I've had both, and I see no reason to go to 3.73's. It's just a waste of money, cause you'll pull um for a little more.(4.10's) You can travel at highway speeds at very low rpm's, so there is really no reason not to go with 4.10's.
I disagree.
I've tried 4.10s in several cars, including my Formula. I went with 3.73 gears after having a set of 4.10s break. 3.73s felt like the perfect gear. You get better traction on the street...you're not shifting to 3rd at 60 mph...you don't have to start thinking about shifting to 5th in the 1/4.
Basically, 3.73s are just enough to eliminate that bog from the 2.66 1st gear and to shorten each other gear just a tad. That's all you really need from a set of gears. You definitely notice the difference, but you don't feel over or under-geared. 3.73s felt like something the factory should have done in the first place.
If the loudest people had their way, everyone would be rasping around on drag radials with 4.10s, off-road pipes, SLP loudmouth exhausts, and with open exhaust cut-outs to boot. All of that is not necessary. Kudos to you for considering straying from the beaten path. I think you'd like 3.73s.

no doubt about it ..4.10 is the only way to go (if u hae some sort of a cam)
with a stock cam u'll run out of breath way too early in a race ... so stock cam = 3.73 .. bigger cam = 4.10
i've had 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10s with my CC306 and i would not go back to any (numerically) lower gear even if i was paid to do so .. i love my 4.10s ... hell i should've gone to 4.56s

A stock LS1 will rev to 6200 and can easily run 4.10s in 4th gear thru the quarter mile.
A stock LT1 can not.
I can speak of LT1's only.....I put 3.73's in my 95 Z28 AFTER I drove a few with 4.10's. 4.10's are nice, but on a stock cam car, 3.73's are the best way to go...IMHO. They are the best all around gear for traction & high speed cruising & 4.10's in the 10 bolt break easier. Go with 3.73's & you'll be happy.
