M6 to Auto Swap
M6 to Auto Swap
Considering yanking out my M6 Tranny and going to an auto. I've got a stroker in the machine shop right now and I'm expecting to be in the 400RWHP area, on top of which I want to add about a 250 shot. This is a street driven car, doesn't see very much freeway driving except to and from the track. At any rate I'm thinking I need an overdrive type auto. BTW I've got a Moser with 4.11's right now.
I'm thinking I could probably get by with a built 700R4. Here are my questions?
1. I'm running a Spohn TA, can I keep it.
2 I've also got a custom aluminum driveshaft shortened, for a Moser, would it work.
3. Can a 700R4 be built to reliably handle the kind of power and torque I'm talking about. The nitrous shot would be only at the track, say twice a month in the racing season.
4. I was thinking about a reverse manual body, iis this too much of a pain for street driving.
If I do this I'll have a complete T56 swap kit, hydraulics, low mileage Spec Stage 2 clutch and flywheel. Let me know maybe we can make a deal.

Re: M6 to Auto Swap
1&2- You should be fine with that stuff.
3- Depends on who you talk to. Some say yes, some no. I say no myself, but I'm no expert, I've just seen all the stories of them blowing up all the time. Other options would be a TH350/400 w/ gearvendors if you plan on still using it on the street, or a 4L80(E?), either one would be quite a bit more expensive than a 700R4, especially since I'm not sure if there's a 4L80 out there or you'd have to do some wiring for a 4L80E since you've got a 93. As you can see the non-700R4 options will be a PITA so you should be prepared for some fun if you go that route.
4- Well that depends on who you talk to as well. I row through the gears every day, so I don't think it's that bad.

Re: M6 to Auto Swap
I ain't done it yet. I'm thinking now screw it, drop in a Street Twin and never worry again. But if you're a serious bracket racer you can't beat an auto for consistency.
