lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
I found this page when I was researching why I cant bang gears with my setup anymore.. http://chevyhiperformance.com/howto/39021/ ... I was reading that after my friend mentioned it.. It says there might be a restrictor in the line. if there is how do I take it out? The same way? Would this be why my shifter stops for a split second before it enter the next gear? I cant seem to nail those gears anymore like i used to with just heads and cam.. tachs up alot quicker now..
Re: lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
I just got off the phone with Don from D&D performance, and he said the same thing... i've been having shifting troubles with my D&D T-56 with the 30 spline upgrade, and he said there is an oriface in the line that should be drilled out to an 1/8th of an inch to cure the clutch not coming all the way off the flywheel.. any truth to this?
Re: lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
Like I said before, that orifice only exists on 98+ LS1 cars. Rashiki, I'd call him back and make sure he's aware you're talking about an LT1 clutch/tranny and not an LS1 unit. It sounds like he's giving you the standard reply for LS1 cars. I've never heard of any LT1 needing master/slave cylinder or line modifications to work properly.
Also, just FYI, the drilling mod on LS1s really isn't the solution to the problem. When I had my Z06 I had these same problems, and after a LOT of digging I found that it appears GM had a problem with flywheels not being torqued properly from the factory on many LS1 cars, and this is what was actually causing the problem, not the orifice in the line. The flywheel would heat up and would cause high temps which would warp the flywheel and also distort the slave cylinder causing the restriction of fluid (thus drilling the orifice seeming to help elleviate the problem). There is even a TSB out on the Vettes about this (although I'm not sure they ever release one for the f-bodies). The solution according to the TSB was complete replacement of the flywheel, clutch disc, master and slave cylinder and related parts. Had this done on the Z06 and the problem was solved and never came back.

Re: lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
the restriction is only in place in the LS1 style T-56 hydraulic lines. the ls1 guys take care of it by simply drilling it out with a drill bit. i dont believe that is your problem tho. you prob sounds more like a sync problem
Re: lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
I noticed I now have the same problem at the track where I cant find the gear in 2nd or 3rd gear(sometimes) at high RPMs but it still shifts smooth on the street.
Re: lt1s have a restrictor in the clutch line?
ok.. that article says that they have only tested it on LS1 cars.. It may be present in lt1 cars.. Ill let you all know tomorrow.. Im going to have at it. this is rediculous, I cant band gears anymore unless im not full throttle..
