LT1 Tranny ?'s

I have a 95 LT1 out of a F-Body(going into something else)all I need to complete it is a tranny. I have been told that I have to use a tranny out of a 95 F-Body or other cars that had a LT1 In 95. Why cant I use a tranny out of a 94-97? I know the 93 is a 700-r But what if any is the reason I cant use a 94-97.

A '94 is a non-PWM unit, which means the '95 has 1 more solenoid that a '94. '96-'97 use a different 3-2 downshift solenoid strategy. The valve body, plate, and solenoid are different. '96 and '97 are interchageable. '98-up are LS1 transmissions, with a removeable bellhousing, and 300MM input shaft.

I assume you are using the computer and harness from the 95 f-body is that correct? if so then yes, if not then you may be able to get by with another year tranny as long as the computer and wire harness do what they need to do for that years tranny...

But if I was doing a swap to another car and didn't already have a tranny, I sure wouldn't be worried about getting an electronic one, just go with a good CPT built 700R4 or some other 4 speed if it's a atreet car, or have Frank build you something special if it is a drag car...

Yes I am going to use the 95 harness and computer. It's going into a 92 Z28 and I dont want to do all thats involved in making the 700R4 work. But I like the ideal of getting CPT "re-working" the 4l60E.

If it's going in a 92 Z28 it should be pretty easy to make a 700R4 work. Did the camaro have a 700 originally?

In that case all you would need to switch to a LT1 and keep the 700R4 would be a Throttle body and throttle cable bracket from a 93. All you need is a place to hook the TV cable.

And I think a TC lock up. But what has me leaning towards the 60E is that you can tap into if and change your shift points?

True, if you want consistancy 4l60e is the way to go. But If all you want is higher or different shift points, it seems like a lot of work. I have a different shift point every time I drive my car without needing a laptop to change it.
