Lt1 Tranny

Hey I was shopping around to get an Lt1 and found a 95 camaro z28. 5 speed I checked it, it has a v8 and it looks like it was factory. It was a bank repo and they have it listed as a v8. Now was a 5 speed an option or something? I thought they were all either 6 speed or automatic unless it was a v6 then it had a 5 speed. What transmission do you think is in there and do you think its any good? I wanna drag race with this one and have my other for daily driver. If it's mileage shows anything it only has 72K on it. Just let me know what you think. Thanks!

Well it has 8 cyl and five forward speeds and one reverse<5 speed>. Now if you can help figure out why that is, Instead of repeating what I said that'd be helpful. Thanks

at some point it could have had the LT swapped into it in place of the 6 and they just left the 5 speed in since they couldnt afford the T56 to go with it(repo'ed)

I understand that is a definite possibility. The bank knows it's a v8 so that leaves out this person swapping the motor. But maybe the owner before them did so. I did find on a few sites of people with 95 z28's and they had the 5 speed option on theirs. I was wondering if anybody knew about this, And what tranny comes with it?

My main concern is if this one was the 5 speed off of a v6 camaro, would it be weaker and inadequate for my drag racing application?

Yes the current tranny could handle the lt1's power. Question is if this is just a v6 tranny would it beable to handle more? Or better yet what are the limits of the v6 5 speed?

I want to do a stroker and maybe a little nitrous later on. The stock t56 can handle this, will a v6 5 speed beable to?

Newest update on what I know about it. Is it originally came factory with a v8. So It being an lt1 swap is null now, I didn't get the chance to find out about what tranny came stock. So yet again I'm in search to find out more about option trannys and what the v6 5 speed can handle.

It did not come from the factory with a 5-speed and a V-8. Something doesn't add up. I'd steer away from this car.
