LT1 t56 thinking to go 3.23

Well heres the thing...

In Germany where the autobahns are wide open for me.

At least twice a week i make a 75 mile drive, and average 100+ mph...

hearing that LT1 spinning at 2800-3000 rpms in 6th gear, its mixed emotions, but thats quite a few rpms for sustained speeds, and its loud(119 dB)(currently no cats and 3" all the way back to magnaflow, waiting on kooks w/ cats)... i hope the high flow cats will quiet it down a little

I rarely race the car, just drive it fast...

Just curious if anyone has any experience with the M6 and higher than stock gears...

Helped a friend of mine do an M6 conversion to an auto car with 3.23 gears a few years back. There wasn't much difference between the 3.23s and the 3.42s I have in my car.

I also have a T56 in my S10. With the stock 2.73 gears it will do 75 at idle in 6th.

Are you going to swap in a complete rear or just the gears because if you are going to order gears then i would split the difference between the 2.73 and 3.23 to a 3.08 gear

If you are going to buy a rear with gears already in it then go for the 2.73 rear you will really like it on the open highway plus gas mpg will be a nice benefit.

3,000 rpm is NOT going to hurt it. The change will only drop it ~5.5%. At 3,000rpm the piston speed is
<1800fpm, not worth it, IMHO.
