LT1 4l60e vs ls1 4l60e
Well, everyone always wants to know the difference on the t56 trannies, but I'd like to know the difference on the slushboxes.
Is the input shaft the main difference on these too? Or is it bellhousing depth?
Is it possible to make the ls1 version compatile with lt1 converters behind an ls1 motor? Or could an lt1 trans and converter be adapted to work on an ls1?
Reason I ask is there is a huge availability of torque converters in the used parts market for the lt1 cars. But it's EXTREMELY rare to find a used ls1 converter.
Even the manufacturers like Midwest, Edge, etc all make them for lt1 cars but not ls1. I'd like a little more affordable solution if possible.
Could the input shaft be changed to the shorter lt1 style, and then spacers fabbed to go between the converter and ring gear?
I haven't seen this discussed before, so if it has, can someone shoot me a link?

LT1 4l60e's have a 10 vane pump and LS1 4l60e's have a 13 vane pump. The input shafts are differant on the spline count.
This it why you can't interchange converters between the two. The bolt pattern on a LT1 block is differant than the pattern on LS1's..
...This is another reason why a trans off of a LT1 won't interchange over to a LS1.
Your post on the MI board is correct as far as using that adapter to mate a LT1 4l60e or TH to a LS1. You will need a LS1 converter or send your LT1 piece back for the correct snout/stator.
I'd say your looking at under $200 in part a labor on the converter. Call daryl up at Lapeer Trans and gear he has a source to do this...

Height is differant per my trans guy sorry.
This info was also supplied by Darryl @ Lapeer trans & gear:
The quick way to spot if you trans will accept a LT1 converter is if the input shaft on the LS1 unit has a "ring clip" near the tip....
....if it dose then the converter from a LT1 will work.
IF the LS1 trans inputshaft has "NO" ring at the tip it is the newer 300 millimeter spec trans and there is no way to run a LT1 converter on it.

It will work!
buy the adapter
use it to mate the lt1 type to ls1 block
and use the converter ment for the era 4l60e trans your using.
You were asking why you couldn't use a LT1 4l60e converter on a LS1 era trans.
good luck
