Question LS1 rear into LT1... any Problems?

Anyone done this change over?
Will the brake lines match up?

Will the E brake lines match as well?

Any other issues to worry about?
I realize the difference in abs from 3 ch to 4 channel. Will that throw and abs code on the dash or will it be ok with it?

Any and all help appreciated.

I had problems with the brakes. I used the ls1 rear, diff, and axles but kept the lt1 calipers, mounting brackets, and rotors. I beleive that the rotors on the ls1 cars are bigger thus making the axles about an 1/8 inch shorter than the lt's. Will be taking out ls1 axles and putting lt1 axles back in sometime this week. Will let you know how it goes.

I have a rear out of a 2000 SS in my car. You have to swap your axles and backing plates onto the LS1 rear, but other than that it just bolts right up. I'm using my stock brakes and everything.

You have got to be kidding????? I can't just plug and play with this thing?
I don't really care about the abs working very much but I do care that this rear bolts up.

Someone tell me what a backing plate is.. excuse the ignorance.

It's not hard, maybe 10 minutes added onto the actual swap. Just take the cross-bolt out of the diff, remove the c-clips, then remove the axles. Do the same thing to the LS1 rear. Now remove the four bolts holding the backing plates to the end of the axle tubes on your LT1 rear, and bolt them onto the LS1 rear in the same spot. Re-install the axles, c-clips and cross bolt and bolt in the rear.

If you don't do this the rear will still bolt in but you will have problems with the brakes. The axles are different lengths and the LS1 backing plates won't work with your LT1 brakes.

Thumbs up

MOORE94Z,
Thanks for the help. I appreciate it very much.
I actually remember how to do the axle swap but don't know all of the parts etc... entailed in it. Are you saying I do have to change out the axles too? Or just the plates?

Now Hold the line though...... I have a complete Rearend. Brakes and all. You are talking about using LT1 brakes when this rear has LS1 brakes.. Is there still a problem?

funny guy Jack and no I don't know everything apparently. My problem is I don't have an LT1 10 bolt. I sold my 12 bolt and don't have access to a stock 10 bolt or else this wouldn't be a problem.
Go figure.

Anyway, Jack get your butt back stateside and then you can talk.
see ya cous.

I put a "borrowed" LS1 rear into my 95.
I used the brakes from the LS1 everything bolted
right in with no issues. The brake lines are a little
different but with a little bending of the hardlines
it wasn't a issue.
I didn't hook up the Ebrake because I only needed
it for the weekend.
The torque arm bolts were a little different (4 bolts instead
of 2 long ones) but it was a KTRE rear I don't know it
a stock mount is the same.
PM me if I can answer any questions for you.

First off, Let me say thanks to everyone that replied with advice on what to do with this rear... I was pretty nervous about trying to make it work being that I was going from a 12 bolt to a 10 bolt and didn't have axles or anything to replace parts with.. Well, the long of the short is; I started with a complete LS1 rearend. DISC to disc. It even came with brake lines. This was nice.

I bought another rear from James in Panama City because I was totally unsure about how well this was going to work. He and his buddy drove the rearend over and He proceeded to do 90% of the work. It was nice watching him work. Efficient.

Anyway, we took the LS1 rear, after removing the 12 bolt, and just bolted it right in.. No major issues. All of the mounts are the same, the brake lines matched up perfectly, it hasn't thrown an ABS code and the E-brake works well. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it went in actually.

So, let me give a shout out to James and Rich for their help and commitment to getting the job done. To all else, if you have a complete rear end to put in...... its a direct bolt in.
No problems or axles to swap etc...

Thanks again,
STEW

Thanks for the kind words. Im just glad everything worked out.

PS Did you pay that girl for helping you bleed your brakes. Maybe buy her an Ice Cream or something? JK

So, you had a 4 channel ABS rear and put it in a car with 3 channel ABS? Is that right? And you don't have an ABS INOP light? How did that work?

TIA
