Light fly wheels
Light fly wheels
I am from the old school, and part of our racing prep was to use an aluminum fly wheel. I do not hear much talk now about guys using light FW's, are these not recommended for LT1's, I do see some damn pricey steel FW's advertised. I may be stuck in the stone age but I hope I get some feed back. I am currently using a centerforce clutch on a stock FW, I have not changed FW for the simple fact I do not hear much conversation about light FW's. Hit me back and set me straight. Danny Mc

well i use the SLP billet steel flywheel it was on sale for 225 thats why i got it, it's still about 7lbs lighter than stock... i just never cared for an aluminum flywheel just my opinion though
but the SPEC billet flywheel is a good piece because it is rebuildable had i thought about it twice i woulda got that

most guys don't like the light fw for drag racing, the lack of rotating mass reduces inertia on the launch i guess.
but in all honesty...i think alot of it is the high $$.
i have a fidanza in my cammed LS1 with a stage 4 clutch (solid disc) and it's a bit of a pain to pull from a stop. but i think most of that is due to the clutch, not the light flywheel.
it does spin up fast though
