Key Stuck / Wheel and Clutch won't lock

Don't know if this is the right spot on the forum for this, but here goes..

I'm having a problem with my 96 camaro. When I shut off the car, the key will not come out, the steering wheel will not lock, and the shifter is still able to move freely. I have to wiggle my steering wheel, jiggle keys back and forth, and play around with the tilt for my key to come out, and then the wheel and shifter will lock.

This is happening all the time now and can take up to 15 minutes to get that key out, so sometimes I have to leave my car locked with the alarm on with the key inside the ignition due to the fact that I have school and such obligations x_x

Do you have that button near the keyhole on the column that you need to depress in order to get the key out? My '95 TA has that, and its impossible to get the key out without touching that button. This probably doesn't help you, but I don't know what else to say. You'd probably have more luck posting this in LT1 Tech though.

Lightbulb Best Guess=Lock Cylinder

As the lock cylinder turns (w/ the key) to activate the ignition switch & column locks (steering & tranny) when the key is turned off, this seems to me to be the most likely source of your problems.

Also, do you have another key to try ?

Sometimes they (the keys) just flat wear out and all that can be done is to replace them.

Good Luck !

Hey, sounds like an easy solution though. I should definitely check it out. Because not only that I don't have spare keys for my car.

Thanks
