Keep the convertor?

My 4L60 E bit the dust recently and I picked up a used one from a 96 GMC van. I'm not sure if I should use the Camaro convertor since the trans. went or use the one that came with the van transmission.
I don't know if the convertor is gone as well. Any way to tell?

I have a previous thread describing the problem:
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=757871

I've always been a standard transmission kinda guy and I don't know a lot about autos.
Any help would fantastic.

Thanks

When the tranny goes, the converter shyould be opened up and cleaned and re-welded. If it's a stock converter, just replace it.

Converter

Thanks Rich. There's no one around here that can do it and I'm not sure what to look for inside one. I guess I'll just buy a new one.

Good time to up the stall speed a little with a performance converter.

Cool, you're like a mind reader dude. LOL
I've ordered the TCI Pro Super rebuild kit and I'm pricing their stalls now.
This is my weekend, street driven play car, so I'm thinking maybe a TCI Breakaway or the Street Fighter.

ive heard lots of bad things about tci, not sure if theyve gotten better. I would go with an edge or spend a little more and get a used vigilante

Oh no, I hate to hear that. They used to be the ones everybody was chasing in the industry years ago.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look at the Edge and Vigilante units.
