Just got a Strange 12 bolt and now......

It's louder than my stock 10 bolt. I followed the break in procedure (drive 50 miles, let sit 30 minutes, repeat until reach 250 miles). Now the rear whines from 30 mph on up. Its so noisy from 55 to 80 that it almost hurts your ears. Now I know with 4.10's there's supposed to be a little bit of a whine but this is louder than my exhaust at WOT. To top it off I drove it to work this morning so I could go to the track tonight but on the way its now developed a vibration that oscillates in and out at highway speed. It'll go from a small vibration to a teeth rattling shake and back. Everything was fine over the weekend.

So I have a couple of questions concerning these two problems. First, has anyone else experienced this with their 12 bolt? Second, could the oscillation be more of a tire problem? I would think that if it was a tire problem then it wouldn't be an oscillation but more of a direct speed related vibration. Anyone have their gears quiet down over time?

Tonight I am going to put my street wheels back on to see if any of the vibration goes away and then I am going to change the fluid (400 miles) so I can see how the mesh is. After that I guess I'll be calling Strange to see what they say. Anything else I should look for?

Didn't have any problem with my 12 bolt whining, but my gears were 3.73's. As for the vibration, did you mark the driveshaft when you pulled it out and reinstall it the same way? If not, try removing the straps from the rear U joint and rotate the drive shaft 180 degrees. Then reinstall the straps and drive it to see if the vibration is still there.

I've run my Strange with the 3.73's that came from the factory, and also swapped in Pro-Street 4.11's, and never had any significant gear whine.

Sounds like yours were not set up correctly.

I have a new Strange 12-bolt with 4.30s and they are “very” noisy. Additionally, I have a Spohn torque-arm with the floor pan mount, so the rear-end noise is transferred through torque-arm to the floor pan. But no vibrations and any speed.

I removed the cover this weekend to change the break-in lube and inspected everything. The wear pattern on the ring gear and pinion looks very good. I’ve always heard performance gears can be noisy. So, I’m willing to deal with the noisy if the rear-end will hold-up without any problems.

It's not the driveshaft, well at least not it being out 180 degrees anyway, because it drove just fine over the weekend (vibration-wise).

I didn't get a chance to pop the rear cover off last night so I wasn't able to check the wear pattern on the teeth. As soon as I do that I will be giving Strange a call to find out what's up. It just kinda sucks that I spend all this money on a rearend only to have just as many problems as I did with the original 10 bolt.

Mine was doing the same thing when i got it.I ve talk to a tech guy at Strange and also send him a close pictures of the diff/gear assembly(after taking the cover off..of course )

He told me that everyting was seems to be setup okay so i refill it.

I realise that has the miles passing the noise came quieter and quieter. Now i can barely hear it,my friend to.

I'm using my car primarily for bracket racing (open headers, Etc.), so I’m not going to worry about the noise for now. The wear pattern looks really good which is the most important thing, therefore I should be good-to-go with my 12-Bolt! And, possibly it will also get quieter with time.

Well I am going to change my fluid by this weekend and hopefully my problems will go away as yours did. I put my street wheel/tire combo back on and will drive it tonight to see if the oscillation/vibration is gone or not.
