My ST did this twice (to less of an extent) when it was fairly new. Starting the car in gear, it lurched forward just a bit, then the clutch broke free. I figured that the clutch material was a little sticky (new) and combined with the tight tolerances of the ST, it was sticking when the car sat for a while.

Once the clutch was more broken-in, this issue disappeared and it's been fine ever since.

What did you do to break it free or loosen up?

Me? Nothing... it broke free on its own after jumping forward a foot or so. Like I stated, it only did this a couple of times when the clutch was nearly new, and has been perfect ever since.

Assuming everything is ok and it's just some sort of problem with rust possibly on the floater or something.... just hold the brakes and clutch (in gear) when you start the car. The brakes will hold the input shaft locked and the engine cranking should free the discs from the rest of the system.
