this is for a third gen...not sure how it will apply accross the board.
I hate my solid axel....Cant go fast around a corner because if theres even a tiny bump the rear end kicks out (i do have some traction issues but still it is a concern with these axels) and at some point im going to have to replace my rear end with something stronger because im planning to do a more powerful engine so im thinking why not go all out and switch to an irs??? I was wondering what about the dana 44's out of the corvettes how much fabrication would be involved to making them fit? How strong is that axel??? Has anyone put an irs in one of our cars??? Whatd they use??? irozinthatz (user on this board) has dana 44 written in his sig but he hasnt responded to my pms so im asking you people. Is an irs rear end capable of holding 750+ hp a possibility?

IMO, going to an older Vette IRS isn't the solution. Others will tell you about strength of the 44. The C5 Getrag rear end is probably lots stronger, but adapting it, and it's limited ratio selection would probably not be cost effective.
Perhaps you could help your rough-roud rear end problem by playing with adjustable shocks. Most single adjustable shocks adjust only the rebound, but may adjust both. If you were to bolt up a set, find a road/corner where you can duplicate the problem, and start changing settings one click at a time, you might help your problem a lot. Don't start with drag shocks. They are specifically valved for straight line bite. The setting you find should be close when you eventually put in the 12 bolt or 9 inch.

fair enough and i may end up sticking with a solid rear but the car is being designed as road race oriented not drag race. For this reason i would just like to consider my options. I know it has been done and id like to know what people have used? How much fabrication was involved and what was it that needed to be done. How much would you be looking at cost wise....im hoping someone on here has done the swap and could give me some info just to get me started. Who knows what ill end up with in the end
You may also want to look into a Jag rearend.. I know there's used extensively in the street-rod world and handling a good amount of power without too much problem.
It would take a LOT of fabrication though... probably equivilent to back-halfing the car... removing everything and rebuilding the entire back 1/2 of the car.
