Info On Rear End Gears

i have a 93 z28. i was wondering if any of you may know what rear end gears i may have. i have a TH700R4 transmission with a selectable 1st gear. i know that in some cars you cannot manually select 1st gear, don't know if this is a factor or not. thanks for the info

Re: Info On Rear End Gears

If you can select 1st gear (and its not a "cut the corner off the plastic blocking plate" mod), it probalby has 3.23's. Check the build tag for codes.

GU5 = 3.23
GU2 = 2.73

wait....i have overdrive, 3, 2 but not a selector for the 1. i just budge down below the 2nd gear, and it goes to 1. but there is no selector for a 1st gear. is that weird????

Re: Info On Rear End Gears

Someone "modded" your shifter gate by cutting off the plastic stop on your shifter under the console. This is a common mod for people with 2.73 gears. GM did not want you to be able to manually choose 1st gear in A4 cars with 2.73s....Like Injuneer stated, you really need to check your option codes to be sure...that is, unless the previous owner changed the gears before you got the car....

Re: Info On Rear End Gears

If I'm wrong here, please forgive my ignorance, but I thought all automatic 4th-gens got 4L60E transmissions, not TH700R4.

Re: Info On Rear End Gears

The 93's were the only fourth gen's that came with a 700R4 (4L60)
